Broken Wings Doha
Based on Khalil Gibran’s masterpiece ‘Broken Wings’, this musical was co-written and composed by Dana and Nadin Namaan, shedding a light on Kahlil Gibran as both an artist and individual.

Broken Wings first opened at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket in August 2018 to a sold-out audience followed by a second run at the Opera House at Katara Cultural Village. In July 2020, ‘Broken Wings’ was performed in Lebanon as part of the 35th anniversary of the prestigious Beiteddine Arts Festival.

THE BEGINNING
This song is a reflection on Qatar's past - which will forever be connected to its present, and future. Like the sand that the modernist city emerged from, the spirit of Qatar transcends time. Performed globally with the renowned Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, in front Urs Fischer’s iconic ‘Lamp Bear’ sculpture, ‘The Beginning’ is the HIA official theme music.

ARTISTIC

Rumi: the musical
Rumi: The Musical examines the transformative and powerful relationship between Rumi and his mentor Shams Tabrizi, and how this extraordinary friendship, integral to Rumi’s development as both thinker and writer, impacted the lives of Rumi’s family, friends and followers, contextualising many of his popular words and works

.Written by Dana Al Fardan and Nadim Naaman, Rumi: The Musical is based on a Story by Evren Sharma, with Orchestrations and Arrangements by Joe Davison and Vocal Arrangements by Nikki Davison.

The Score is inspired by the global scale of Rumi’s outreach and influence, which has always broken cultural borders and resonated with hearts and minds across Continents; combining Middle Eastern authenticity with Classical influences and Contemporary Musical Theatre, with Lyrics derived from Rumi’s poetry.

"The score hooks you straight from the start - you are transported to the Middle East where classical influences and musical theatre meet head on, in spectacular fashion."

Making of rISING
“The idea behind writing this song and collaborating with the AFCENT Band was born out of a shared drive to promote inclusion and connectivity. This was proposed during a visit to the female soccer team Washington Spirit. The girls were great models for women in sports. Their dedication and commitment provided an example of the universal pursuit of excellence in all fields. Their energy inspired me to up my game in the sports I practice. When it comes to sports, music and art in general, there is no language barrier and that is what this song is intended to demonstrate; that we may be worlds apart geographically but at our core, and in our hearts, we are all made of the same building blocks. And when we communicate from that place, everything is within our reach”.

FJIRI
Fjiri is a song included in Dana's albu Sandstorm. In her words: "Much like the blues, pearl diving music is an art form that was born out of hardship and perseverance in Qatar. Playing a prominent role in the local economy, the pearl trade put great pressure on traders and divers .‘FJIRI’ is an important reflection and reminder of the struggles that helped shape the country."

Carrying forward traditional Qatari sounds into a modern context,  ‘FJIRI’ draws from filmic scoring to create an otherworldly audio landscape.
